Rick Working on a Hiking Staff We Nicked Named “Bonehead”

This is another one of Rick’s newest carvings. We have nicked name him “Bonehead” because the part Rick decided to carve looks like a bone joint…lol. So far, every one of his carvings have not lasted long in our Ebay store TnNativeWoods.

I just wanted to say a little bit about Rick. He was afflicted by a rare genetic eye disease called Stargardt in his early 40’s and he became disabled at that time for blindness (he turned 65 this year). He is legally blind and can no long drive, read or write among other things. The reason I’m bringing this up is, Rick has been learning to carve wood spirits on some of our sticks and I think he has been doing an awesome job, especially with his disability. I personally believe his work is as good as some of the experts that have been doing this work for years…and with the ability to see!

Watch Rick’s short video on YouTube. Believe it or not, this man is blind!
